I was at the Apple Store yesterday and I placed my Black iPhone side-by-side (on a flat surface) with White model they have on display, and my friend and I could not tell the difference is thickness.
I did the same with 2 other White models and had the same result, so I was rather baffled as to what the bloggers were reporting. So Phil Schiller was not lying, thanks Phil.

There was a study a bit ago that showed that complexity drastically reduced participation in altruistic activities, while simplicity -- especially exact instructions on how to participate -- drastically increased participation.
I think that's applies here. Using a Mac is so simple, generally speaking, that the folding@home pages seem obtuse in comparison. The pages are all ugly, and instructions are unclear, and files seem to be missing that instruction pages reference.
Well put, the instructions are way out of date, hard to follow for beginners and make references that are no longer valid.
To increase participation I recommend that a very clear communicator make a new thread (perhaps a sticky) with *dead simple* step by step instructions w/screenshots on how to install and turn it on (circa 2010). Maybe even a screen flow that just shows exactly how to it, hosted on a service with crystal clear video like vimeo.com. Get our mirror neurons goin', yaknow?
Case in point, I'm having my own issues. Where exactly is the screen saver? On http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/OSX/OSX.html, it talks about it, and say to grab it off the download page, but I just can't find it. Makes me feel dumb, which is hardly what you want in a social endeavor.

Sometime in the past it was deemed detrimental to folding because it was using up valuble resources the could be used for folding. And we all go through a 'feeling dumb' stage after which you go through an 'oh well I'll do the best I can' stage, which lasts as long as you continue to fold.
Beyond my notebooks, I also have 2 8 Core Mac Pro's I'd like to put into the game, but I really only want the processor power being used when they're idle. I need that power to myself at the other times. Screen saver or idle time processing is perfect.

The clients are supposed to ease up as other process use more cpu power but I have read where this doesn't always seem to work as for someone using video software etc. I suppose you could try and see if it works for you and if not... Apple did the same thing with the DTK hardware... they released a "Software Update" version, with a letter revision to the same build #'s, and it was to enforce security and/or entrap those running the 10.4 Intel build on non-Apple P4 hardware. Get it? Apple Software Update connects to Apple servers, so they know exactly to whom/what/where their "update" is being sent and installed.... then they cross-reference those IP's against logs of ADC member logins (and this is only necessary when assuming the user submitted false info during the Leopard registration, instead of their real name/address). IP match? Boom! Gotcha.
Maybe they just want to see how many of those IP's belong to Microsoft's net. :rolleyes:

I think it is very telling for Microsoft that they weren't represented there. You had Yahoo!, Cisco Systems, Twitter

I got no good answer for you Lee, I didn't vote for that party. Maybe the minority position of the last two conservative government gave them a softer image than before, maybe it was due to the lack of a strong Liberal leadership, maybe people were tired of going to the polls and wanted a 4 year break... It's so you can have analog and digital audio and video, remote control commands, and various types of protocols coming out of one port. All the user needs to do is buy the one they need.

But this story is about a guy who manages data center, not about Microsoft's rise to power and their illegal moves to remain at the top for years. And their data center seems to have been top notch, since you rarely hear of Windows update not working or Microsoft.com being down, or MSN messenger not responding or Hotmail.com being on the fritz.

The Euro tax bit accomplishes something, look at their cars. How many land-yachts do you see rolling about over there?
That said, we do have a gas tax, but as mentioned earlier - it's obscured by the price of oil to the point we no longer feel it. Perhaps we should bring back the sting. Before doing that, I'd say to lean out and make DPW a hell of a lot more efficient at doing their jobs, before giving them any more $.
I think it was Japan that taxed cars based on the engine displacement - I believe that would be worth considering here. For anyone who "needs" a big engine - and 98% of you who claim you do - actually do not. But for those who insist - should have a commercial-type registration. (like we currently do with large work vehicles) That said - we were lax, stupid or I don't know what - but allowed 4 ton vehicles to be called passenger cars, and now every 90 pound soccer mom drives a Superduty pickup because it makes them feel safe... :rolleyes:

I would agree that the WP7 Metro is a good looking UI when compared to iOS. However, it seems pretty obvious that we won't be getting an iOS UI overhaul after having seen screen shots of Lion's Launchpad.

See what I'm saying? Now, some people may like the latter way but I much prefer iPhone's navigation, iPhone browser, and the App Store to Android. That said, I do like a lot of the Android features, especially the notification bar that just amazed me.

Why would you need GPS for a route you take daily? Traffic, I suppose...but still?
That's 99% of my use for GPS apps - daily. They alert you to and try to route you around snarled traffic. If you aren't using an app that takes advantage of real-time traffic data, you are missing out on a very big part of the app's usefulness.

I have never heard of this guy. But having Geocities, Yahoo, and Microsoft on a resume doesn't inspire a great deal of confidence.
