Literally, windsor(Canada) and Detroit (USA) are seperated by river, so keeping GC and PR is like riding in two boats ... not possible. While Canadians are liberal in allowing their immigrants to travel daily into US to conduct their jobs ( that brings easy tax $$), it would be inconvienent to track daily movements out of country for GC. Remember at US citizenship, you will be asked to provide detailed log of trvels outside the country. So trip to Windsor is technically outside the country.
I had Canadian PR and am giving it up, because I finally got GC. With GCI can trvel freely into Canada. Plus even before Canadian PR, I never lived in Canada nor do I plan to in future. So why bother.

I see that Dream Act folks are trying to get > 60000 points, to showcase their support. We need to match for the posts like Legal Immigration in there. Currently the top posts for "legal immigration" are around 2000 points. Not many ppl are not taking interest.

1- I canceled a business meeting - employer didn't like it
2- I moved business travel around the rally, my boss also had to reschedule
3- I am flying in from Texas
Those of us near Washington, it will be so much easier than this for you to make it! Just get in your car or the train and go to DC for the day!

I am wondering if there is a potential issue for the applications filed between July 3rd to july 17th. This is the period when everything was in limbo. Is there any disadvantage for these folks?
So far I haven't seen anyone getting checks cashed or recipted in this period. We do see July 2nd notices comming in.
I had my 485 application received at NSC on July 3rd. And now we are hearing that they may transfer cases to TSC if I-140 was approved from there. Another delay! This wait is getting me restless.

What if VISA is not given .. can you come back?
Valid I 94 is good enough at port of entry (even if your visa in your pp is expired)... as long as
1. your stay in canada is not more than 30 days
2. you did not appear for the visa interview (@US consulate) in canada.
3. You are not from a terrorist sponsored contries such as Iran, N. Korea etc.
This is called as "Automatica visa Revalidation" rule.
In other words if your visa is rejected @ the consulate and if your visa in passport is expired, you CANNOT come back to USA (using 30 day "automatica visa revalidation" rule).

If Your Consulting Company is the negotiating then its good for you that you will be leaving on good terms. I would recommend you negotiate with them to File your 485 when PD available.
As far joining new Employer, you can only join them with H1B with 140 waiting status.
What does that mean? how can they file 485 when I'm not working for them? Also - What do you mean by with H1-B & 140 waiting?

Similar thing happened to my AP notice. I got all the notices properly including EAD. But my AP approval notice was sent back by USPS as undeliverable. USCIS sent the AP back to my lawyer along with USPS undeliverbale notice without any upate on the online status. Lawyer sent whole package back to me. I could see that address is correct. I have placed recepient names in the mail box long back so thats not the issue. USPS undeliverable notice was pasted on top of the returned mail. That was strange.
As I enquired further one of my friend wife FP notice also sent back like that , luckily his lawyer also got another one.
I am going to meet USPS personnel soon to find out what exactly the issue .
On October XX, 2007, the post office returned our last written notice on this case as undeliverable. This can have serious effects on the processing of this case. Please call 1-800-375-5283 to update the mailing address so this notice can be re-sent.
I was shocked. I have emailed the company law firm and I'm awaiting response from them.... Have they mistyped their own address since that is supposed to go to them? Or USCIS is just pulling my legs?

I just got my H1 visa and thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate that. I now actually got some questions about the port of entry. As my understanding that they will stamp my passport at the port of entry, I wonder if they will keep my current I-797 at the port of entry (I already have the H1 stamp in my passport). Pls advise. Also, I don�t have the bottom portion of the I-94 on I-797 since I am currently in Malaysia . Would this be a problem? Please also advise if they will issue me the new I-94 at the port of entry. Anybody pls help. Thank you very much.
keep the 797 with you. you may be asked for it at the port of entry - but it will be returned to you. that is your work authorization approval notice

Remember, everthing copy. Nothing Original. don't send your original I-94, but a copy.
